Solidify your perspective, or change it, by really hearing what people have to say.
As chiropractors, how we think about health is often in contradiction to the interventionist models that dominate our culture. There is a tendency for many of us to only enjoy listening to people that hold similar perspectives to our own. This self-reinforcing practice is great if we want to have a narrow thought process, but to expand the sophistication of our perspectives it is crucial that we listen openly to arguments for ideas that may be in direct conflict to our beliefs or opinions. One of the greatest communication tips that was taught to me early in Chiropractic College was regarding how to handle a disagreement. What I learned, and have found to be very successful, was when disagreeing with someone’s viewpoint, be sure to listen long enough to be able to argue their point back to them...LOGIN TO READ THE REST
